You'll be taking steps toward a career by choosing a major and studying to earn a certificate or associate degree. The only thing on your mind should be your success, not how much it would cost.
Eligibility Am I Eligible?
- Be a graduating senior from a participating high school in Hidalgo or Starr County.
- Be a Texas resident with residency in Hidalgo or Starr County.
- Have financial need based on U.S. Department of Education determination.
- Meet all program requirements by July 1, 2025.
Next Steps
To be eligible for the program, seniors of the participating Promise high schools must complete the following program requirements by July 1:
Submit
Complete the Apply Texas application and apply for Financial Aid with the FAFSA/TAFSA.
Pledge
Submit your Promise Pledge by June 1, 2025.
Register
- Enroll full time for 12 hours for fall semester.
- Pursue a certificate or associate degree.
- Have a declared major and enroll only in classes on your degree plan.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
STC Dual Credit High School Seniors must also:
- Meet Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress.
- Have at least 2.0 grade-point average (GPA) for all STC coursework.
- Be in Good Academic Standing.
Once enrolled as a South Texas College Promise Scholar:
- Maintain minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA each semester.
- Must enroll and complete 12 credit hours each fall and spring semester while completing certificate or associate degree.
- Submit the following applications by established priority dates:
FAFSA/TASFA: October 1 – June 1
